Happy New Year!

Snow and more snow! Due to the snow days, Mrs. Decker’s and Mrs. Colborn’s 6th students and Mrs. Eppolito’s 7th grade students will be back in the tech lab to finish their projects.

December 17 - 20, 2007

Literary device, figurative language what??? Mrs. Decker’s 6th grade students will be working to produce a ortion of a class PowerPoint based on these. They will define it, find an example, write their own and locate a graphic to represent it.

Help! How do I find what I really am looking for on the internet! Mrs. Colborn’s 6th graders will be learning about how browsers, search engines and keyword searches are used to narrow the focus of the topic.

Why do I think that looks like that? Combining several standards, 7th grade students in Mrs. Eppolito’s classes will be taking a look at how the eye sees and then creating their own original work of art, an optical illusion, using Microsoft Word.

December 3 - 10, 2007

Check out the cool “Forms of Fiction” resource books the 6th graders in Mrs Stewart’s/Mrs. Fagan’s classes are carrying around this year! They are going to create and publish their own individual book in the tech lab this week using PowerPoint.

Lights, camera, action! Mr. Kehoe’s 8th grade students are making movies on the Bill of Rights. Each group will complete a production using iMovie that explains what the amendment is, what it would be like without it and what is it like with it.

Graphic design study guides on Colonial history will be produced by the 8th grade students of Ms Ferlin’s. Teamwork and collaboration will make this project flow.

November 13 - 16 & 26, 2007

Collaboration and teamwork - that is what the 7th grade students of Ms Brittain’s classes will be doing as they work in groups to produce a poster on one of the Islamic beliefs or practices. They will use the internet, and Microsoft Word.

Mr. Bruno’s 8th grade students will take their knowledge of their element and produce a five slide PowerPoint presentation including electrons, neutrons, protons, physical and chemical properties! Oh, yes - don’t forget the credit slide citing the references used in MLA format! WOW!

October 26 - November 5, 2007

Web 2.0? Mrs. Heydon’s 7th grade students will be learning about how research using the Internet requires the right keywords to get the information they are trying to find. They will also learn about evaluating the web sites. Have you every heard of the “Save the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus” web site?

Protons, Neutrons, Electrons. Mrs. Williams’s 8th grade students will each research and create an animated PowerPoint slide showing the the number of these for their element. The atomic number and mass will also be included.

Conference Week: October 15 - 19, 2007

Students will be using this week to complete projects started in the tech lab.

On Friday, Dave Curry and Annette Cooper will be in the tech lab to help parents access their student’s Aeries grade file.

October 8 - 16, 2007

Mrs. McMaster’s 7th grade classes is beginning their unit on Islam with research in the Tech Lab. They will learn how to use various web sites to obtain information and images for a group presentation on their topic.

Mrs. Stephens’s 7th grade classes will be producing a PowerPoint presentation on their science topic. It will contain 9 slides with text boxes, images and hyperlinks to movies.

Using Microsoft Word, the 6th grade students in Mrs. DeCoite’s classes will create a time line of events for each year of their life. The cover will include a digital picture of the student and the events will be placed in text boxes on the inside along the time line.

September 27 - October 4, 2007

Students in Mrs. Mock’s 6th grade students will be using the USGS website to research earthquakes all over the world. They will compile their findings in an Excel workbook. Rock and Roll!

Mrs. Kerr’s 7th grade students have collected data on the Seven Intelligences, a chimp’s diet, and crickets vs temperatures. They will be entering their data in Excel worksheets then learning how to turn that data into column, pie, and line graphs for presentations!

Do you know your states and capitals? Mrs. Larson’s 8th grade students do! The students are learning how to video then import the video into iMovie. They are creating titles, editing the video, adding credits and saving their production as a quicktime movie!

Technology Lab Opens Door

The ACMS Technology Lab Opens it’s door for the 2007-2008 school year this week!

Students in Mr. Hilton’s 6th grade students will be using the USGS website to research earthquakes all over the world. They will compile their findings in an Excel workbook. Rock and Roll!

Mrs. Kehoe’s 7th grade students are going to start learning how to write a five paragraph research paper! Wow! They will research ancient Roman topics using three different search engines. The final project will be written in the Microsoft Word application program. The project will have a cover page, five paragraph paper telling why the topic was important then and now, and a bibliography.

Mrs. McMullen’s 8th grade students are learning about immigration to the United States. The students will be using a Library of Congress website to learn about the various groups. Each student will create a stamp of their immigration group from their research. The stamp will be saved as a jpeg picture then placed in a PowerPoint slide show for them to use to present to the class.
