July Update

The Fourth of July Fireworks were just spectacular! I took my own kids down to see the parade and have a pancake breakfast at the Firehouse on Donner pass road in the morning. It was a great time and while the line was long (we are used to being there very early), it was the perfect spot to view the parade from. We had a wonderful surprise as we watched the parade… even though the ACMS/SMMS jazz band was not playing (only the second time in 14 years) along came a Jazz band playing one of our standards Birdland! It was our former students now part of Truckee HS Jazz Band taking up the mantle and making sure the school music programs of Truckee were represented in our Home Town Parade! BRAVO!!!! I even noticed that Graduated Seniors were leading the way.

I was so excited I had to run down the street and take pictures of these wonderful young musicians as they moved along the route. I was even lucky enough to catch a photo of Mr. Green’s smiling  face as he rode along in the Cab of the float truck!

I could not be more proud of Mr. Green and these Fine young students carrying on this tradition!

I will be down at the school this week working on the inventory and cleaning brass instruments in the mornings. I have my class lists for 7th and 8th grade and I will be getting in contact with everyone over the remainder of the summer to talk about next school year!

I hope to see you all soon!

Mr. H.

Summer Update

Here we are one week into summer… I hope everyone is having a great time.

I am for now just working on defensible space at home… big job!

The smoke we have been experiencing  these days serves to high lite the need to get this kind of work done. I am hoping to have my class lists for next year soon and I will be contacting each of you to talk about next year. I am also inventorying and cleaning our instruments to make sure every thing is in good working order for the fall. If anybody wishes to help out with this… just give me a call and let me know you would like to help. Also if anyone would like summer lessons alone or in small groups let me know… I can set a side one day aweek for that kind of activity! 587-3239

Have a great summer!

Mr. Humphreys

Band Update 5/8/08

Tomorrow is the 4th annual TTUSD Select MS Honor Band at North Tahoe MS. I encourage all music families to come out and support our kids at the concert!  Concert starts at 1:30 on Saturday May 10th  in the NTHS Auditorium.

Students participating need to be there and ready to rehears by 3PM Friday May 9th. I am requesting of the core teachers that students who are participating be allowed to leave ACMS by 2PM so there is ample time to drive safely over to NTMS and even get a snack on the way. Parents are needed to drive their own child and possibly others who’s parents cannot drive them. I can be an emergency shuttle if needed.

Please let me know if you can help so, I can direct students who need rides to drivers.

Warning: On the progress reports I accidentally put in Spanish to “contact the counselor” Please do not trouble Mrs.Falk or the office staff it was a mistake on my part… What I meant to put was that “your student is doing well and is a pleasure to have in band” We can not change it at this point ,but I now know what I did and how to avoid doing it in the future… sorry!

Remember Spring Concert is on Sunday June 1st… There is still no word on if you as parents are hosting a BBq? What do you think?
