Tonight’s homework is to read about atoms and their parts and fill in the Reinforcement sheet. Tomorrow you will be introduced to your Tech Project. Hint: It has something to do with ATOMS.

Monday, October 30, 2007

Today we took the Chapter 3 test in groups.

Homework tonight is the Elements and Compounds reading sheet. A periodic table may be helpful for the examples.

Tomorrow we are in the Tech Lab. We will be signing in to the online textbook. If you have internet at home this means you won’t have to take your book home to do homework.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Today we finished the Changes of State chart by filling in Vaporization, Condensation, and Sublimation. Examples tomorrow.

Tonight’s homework - Molecules on the Move. In each situation, label what the change of state was (example: solid to liquid or liquid to gas).

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Boyle’s Law with the vacuum chamber today - decrease pressure = increase volume of a gas.
Charles’s Law with the balloon on the soda bottle - increase temperature = increase volume of a gas.

Tonight’s homework is to TEXT MINE looking for information in your book about melting and freezing to be able to fill in your chart.

Well, conference week is finally over. Thank you to all of the parents with whom I met.

Students, it is a regularly scheduled day Monday. Keep track of your pink “Mythbusters” paper.

Today we turned in the green Compressibility Challenge/Vanilla Balloon Challenge/Gas Density papers.

We move on to Changes of State next week: melting, freezing, vaporization, condensation, and sublimation (think about the dry ice from Wednesday).

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Today we created quite a mess! But it was fun, right? We continue our investigation of solids, liquids and gases with a focus on gases today and tomorrow. Tonight make sure you have calculated your air and carbon dioxide densities. Tomorrow we will look at helium, and then I will give demonstrations of Boyle’s and Charles’s Laws.

Monday, October 15, 2007

All right, 8th graders! It is time to start working again. Tonight’s homework is the worksheet “States of Matter.” Questions 1 - 3 can be written on the back if you do not want to waste another sheet of paper. Tomorrow we investigate compressibility.

Tuesday, 10/2/07

We are in our second day of Family Life with Candy Jensen. If you forgot your “Life Line” at home, make sure to bring it in to me so I can give you credit for it.

We will finish the “Drops on a Penny” lab on Thursday.

If you are in my Period 3 class and have not returned the Parent Conference form, it is due TOMORROW!

Friday, 9/28/07

Last night’s homework was “Make a State-ment.” It is due today.

Today we will begin investigating surface tension in two different liquids with the lab “Drops on a Penny.” We will not finish today. We will continue next Thursday and the lab write-up will be due next Friday.

Monday begins Family Life with Candy Jensen. She will be presenting Monday - Wednesday of next week and Monday - Friday of the following week.

Look to yesterday’s post to see about tonight’s homework.

When you think about chemical and physical changes think about this:

Did the object stay the same, but you just changed the size, shape, color, texture, hardness, or state (gas, liquid, solid)? If so, you have made a PHYSICAL CHANGE.

Did you create something new, something that wasn’t there when you started (like bubbles or a lack of color where there was color before)? If so, you have made a CHEMICAL CHANGE.
