About
I am a recent graduate from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where I spent 4 years running cross-country and track and majored in physical education. I spent another year getting my teaching credential. I am very excited to be here and even more excited to teach your kids.
The expectations that I have for my students are that they will respect their teachers, their peers, the equipment in a way that promotes a positive learning environment, and to challenge themselves. My goals are to get to know my students as well as teach physical education in a way that portrays the benefits of exercise and living a healthy lifestyle.
WHY I WANT TO BE A TEACHER…
One Obstacle In My Life
“ Come on Katie, you can do this. Only a little more and then you’ll be at the top. Don’t give up, Katie. You have prepared for this your whole life, continue to press on.”
Those are just some of the words that I uttered to myself as I endured a 14-mile climb up Mt. Diablo. It was a run that took me 3 hours to run, but 19 years to train for. I ran to honor the death of my father, but by the end I realized I had just fought the battle of overcoming his death and felt the pleasure of God’s healing. Through 19 years of watching, observing, and learning I had reached a place in my life of pure joy. I had gotten to the top of the mountain by physically pushing myself to get there. From childhood, all physical activities helped prepare me for my climb Through coaches and Physical education teachers I was taught and challenged to train the body to endure new adventures, new skills, and to use what I learned to fight the battles that life would throw me. I reached the top of a huge mountain in my life because I had physically trained my mind, body, and soul to press on. Physical Education is not just a class to give you rest during your busy school day, but a class that will teach one to try, succeed, fail and will bring them joy, encouragement, and challenges. Through all this they will learn how to run the race of life and understand the triumphs and joys that come with it.
I am here at Cal Poly because I made the choice to run cross-country and track. I choose to run because one teacher, my coach taught me the life skill of believing in myself. His love for running and being physically active inspired me. I have failed and I have succeeded. I have climbed mountains and I have fallen down hills. If one teacher can influence me the way mine did, then I can surely do the same for others. I desire to encourage others to run the race of life with passion and excitement. Not knowing what lies ahead makes life more adventurous. I want to take students on off campus adventures, teach them new sports, new activities, and then take in what they teach me to help me become a better teacher. I overcame the death of my dad through physical activity, running up a mountain. I have grown as a person through my experiences. I have overcome obstacles and learned from them and my ultimate goal in becoming a P.E. teacher is to help others climb their mountains. I am a different person because I climbed that mountain. In order for me to get to that point, I had to train. I needed people to help me train. It is now my turn to help others in their training.
