About
I grew up in Truckee living in a house on East River Street, which had been originally built by my grandfather around 1906. I remember my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Leslie, who introduced our class to a variety of fun sports activities. This actually provided the initial inspiration for me to pursue my current career. I graduated from Tahoe-Truckee High School where I was senior class president and named “Athlete of the Year”. Thanks to the consistent support of my parents, Angelo and Eva, I went on to receive my AA degree at Sierra College. I continued my education at the University of California at Davis where I received a Bachelor of Science and my Secondary Teaching Credential. In between my years at UC Davis, I spent a fabulous year studying Italian and working in Florence, Italy.
In 1974, I began my teaching career at Sierra Mountain Intermediate School where I shared the gym with Miss Brown, the loveliest teacher in our district. Two years later we were married and have been blessed with three wonderful children: Cara Mia 28, Lisa Marie 25, and John Joshua (J.J.) 20. My hobbies include hiking, XC skiing, golf, and camping. I also enjoy building, renovating, and landscaping.
Over the course of the past thirty-three years, I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching at Sierra Mountain Middle School, Truckee High School and Alder Creek Middle School. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I served as athletic director at the high school and, subsequently, at both middle schools. I also coached such sports as football, basketball, nordic ski and track and field. But I must admit that my favorite part has always been the teaching our great kids in our physical education classes. This is my third and final year of working reduced workload. During the last three years I have been extremely fortunate to have two outstanding teaching partners, Shauna Correll (now teaching at Truckee Elementary), and my current partner, Katie Murphy. I will be retiring this year. I will truly miss the students, teaching staff, classified workers and administrators at Alder Creek Middle School. I am blessed to be finishing my career at perhaps the most outstanding middle school in the entire state of California!
