The Alder Creek Middle School wrestling team has competed in two tournaments so far this season — a dual meet at Carson Valley Middle School on Wednesday and the Fernley Invitational this past Saturday.

On Wednesday, the Cougars collected more wins than losses, with Carlos Ramirez, Sam Mohun, Nick Arnone and Gregory Engler all going undefeated while pinning every opponent.

Ramirez, an eighth-grader weighing in at 150 pounds, is currently ranked third in the state. He took second at state last year and is eyeing to win it all this season. He lost his first match of the season, and it left him with feelings of redemption.

“I want to beat anyone who crosses my path,” Ramirez said.

“With almost 60 racers on the Alder Creek Middle School Nordic team, Truckee is well-represented on the Junior Circuit — making up almost half the league participants itself.

Coach Brian Kehoe manages to keep the ball rolling each year, re-stocking with fresh-faced sixth-graders to add to his team of “veteran” seventh- and eighth-grade student-athletes. ”
